Hang in there!

We often say this to each other, and we often say it to ourselves. But what’s it actually take to hang in there when you’re living with a chronic condition? Especially on those days when the going is especially rough?

When I think of what it takes to hang in, I can’t help but think of the wisdom of the Serenity Prayer.

The Serenity Prayer is so simple yet so wise. I think of it often when I am dealing with a difficult situation. It’s gotten me through quite a few of them. And I encourage my clients to use it in their own lives.

Here it is:

God, give us grace to accept with serenity the things that cannot be changed,

Courage to change the things that should be changed,

And the wisdom to know the difference.

The Serenity Prayer has a special message for individuals who are living with a chronic condition. I recently wrote an article with some of my thoughts about what the Serenity Prayer offers to individuals living with chronic conditions. Here is a link:

What’s it take for you to hang in there, day after day? Does the Serenity Prayer speak to you in any way?

I’d love to hear about what gets you through the rough times.
